The message is 1 Peter 2:4-10.
We have a few Mongolian brothers and sisters joining us today and I’m glad to meet you today. Thank you for your encouragement and prayers. And the Mongolian church in Maryland is greatly encouraged. This is my third time preaching today and God gave me this message today. May Jesus give great grace in your hearts today. God Bless You. I want to share the message today connecting Genesis and 1 Peter. 1 Peter 2:4-10
If you look at Gen. 26 you can see Abraham and Isaac.
God appears to Isaac and he tells him not to go down to Egypt but to dwell in that land and that he will bless him and give the land to his descendants.
Like the promise that he gave to Abraham his father to give him descendants as numerous as stars. As I entered the room today God poured this thought into my heart that he is and will bless your descendants. Through Abraham and Sarah’s faith and obedience all of his descendants to the whole nation of Israel were blessed. God first blesses you from this time of worship today but even greater he will bless your descendants.
In Gen. 26:24 God appears to Isaac again and says Fear not for I am with you and will bless you and mulutiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake. So Isaac built an altar there and called upon the Lord. As I meditated on this word for two hours this morning and more.
God gave me some truths. The faith of Abraham and Sarah shows as a protection for their children from sexual harassment. As we go on the mission fields I was the only one who believed. But when I returned from Mongolian missions after 7-8 years when I came back my prayer that God would bless my brother so he could take care of my mother was heard.
There are blessings we gain through our effort, but there are also blessings that are given to us out of God’s free grace. And I pray that you will have those blessings. God gave protection to Isaac and Rebekah by Abraham and Sarah’s obedience.
The second blessing was that Isaac was able to dig wells. This is one of the greatest blessings of the time especially to the nomads. The area is dry and water is precious. We have to put water in the towel and hang it on the room and the next day it’s completely dry.
Wells were precious like this. Isaac found water, and that was like great possession like digging up oil. Isaac was a foreigner and he was like a second generation missionary but wherever he dug there was water. And then the local people were envious and wanted to know why this was happening and they came to know the Lord through this.
And the Lord even appears in the king’s dream to tell him to not touch Rebekah. So wherever you go, whether they believe or not, God already starts working and they will come to know when you go as a missionary. There was a time when I didn’t do anything, but during a 26 hour truck drive, there was someone who kept asking about who I was and through questions and questions all of them ended up hearing the gospel.
Isaac also couldn’t do anything in the foreign land or say much, but Rebekah was very pretty and there was the danger that the other men of that nation would try to take advantage of her. It reminded me of times in villages in the past where a woman was in a disadvantaged position.
And this was like how the Lord said that he was sending us out among wolves. There was a missionary who went to Africa and the locals had set a trap for the missionary and his wife and the car was caught with all the tires made flat. And they were closing in but as they were about to get closer to kill them, there were 17 angels standing around them with swords in their hands and they all fled.
When this story got back to America one of the pastors who heard this was so surprised because that day there were 17 of them who were praying for the missionaries in Africa. God is a God who protects. And he uses our prayers. And may you believe that he has prepared crowns of life for you in heaven. When God appears to Isaac a second time, he says fear not, I already have a covenantal relationship with your father.
And as you continue to meet every month and serve and get tired sometimes whether you have many people or not. As Isaac was in a foreign land, like a mission field, God confirms that he will make him prosperous and that he will bless him with peace. Often those with much riches are always anxious, but God promises that he will protect and provides peace.
If God called you, family, wealth, friends, its all of no use. You need to put them all down and go. God wants you to go to bring salvation to the others who are waiting to hear the gospel. So if you are called, you need to go not using your family as an excuse.
And those who are not called are to pray and support those who are sent. So Isaac builds an altar to the Lord and his servants start to dig wells. They were in the valleys which is the worst place to live. I don’t know anything about digging wells but there was a Mongolian brother who took me to his family land. There were no showers no bathrooms even.
And I stayed there for three days. And he was showing me about where to find wells. We need to dig a well and he showed me two spot and asked me where he should dig. But I had no idea about wells. So I prayed to God and asked him for wisdom. And I pointed out a spot and I came back. And later I heard that they had found water in that spot.
Missionaries don’t do it by their own power but by God’s power. They had come to the valley because they were cast out, but then they made Isaac move again and then they found another well and then they came to make him leave again. The last time he found another well and the other people didn’t come to make him leave so he named that place Rehoboth.
It’s like your business is getting a lot of work whatever you do. It’s the story of my friend who whatever he put his hand to it prospered and he planted so many churches in Mongolia. Isaac was so blessed that they were envious. Because he went as a missionary and he obeyed.
Have you received such blessings? I want to share some of the blessings that I received as a missionary. When I went to Mongolia we were in such fear that we had to be really careful as one of the professors had been killed by a student who stabbed him with a knife. I had KGB agents following me and I clung onto God even more and if he didn’t protect me I wouldn’t have been able to survive in Mongolia as a missionary.
We translated the hymn books and the Lord’s prayer and spread it out all through the Mongolian churches. And as God blessed my ministry so much, there were many other missionaries who were jealous. I had so many enemies that kept attacking me and my work. But if you look at 1 Peter you see that Jesus was the stone thrown away but God takes him as the cornerstone that is living.
Isaac typifies Christ like the meek lamb. When Jesus healed, the Pharisees and the religious leaders didn’t applaud but they crossed their arms and they were envious and wanted to kill him. Each time Jesus did miracles, they didn’t come and repent as they should have but they rejected him and the living word and wanted to kill him. And Jesus died on the cross to bring us out of the dark and to share the gospel to more.
There are seven identities of the Christian. 1. Chosen People. Missions is not human work but it’s God’s work under his sovereignty and his guidance. The reason I don’t fear or get anxious is because of the cornerstone. His grace. He pulls us out of the water. He protects us. And though I just got kicked out of another seminary, I have no fear.
God fulfills his promise to the very last word. The second identity is a Royal Priesthood. We are in the genealogy of the royal king of the heaven and earth. As adopted children of God. We are in his family. My mother is of a Mongolian heritage the only last name in Korea.
She was such a good person but only had one daughter and couldn’t give birth to a son. So they brought in another wife and she was my biological mother who gave birth to six sons. And there was so much ancestral worship but God broke the curse.
It is all God’s grace. My older brother ended up committing suicide and I was also a part of that family that was cursed and should have been damned but God saved me someone like me by his great grace. We all have a mission. To bring out of the dark and into the marvelous light to share the gospel.
We are chosen by God and have a mission from him as his people. And woe is it to those who do not preach the gospel that they have received. And though they might not believe right away, to plant the seeds. George Muller prayed 56 years for his five friends to be saved. Our prayers that we give each month is not a weary thing, but something that will be fulfilled at some point. Tonight is a precious night. God gathered us tonight to pray. May God bless you and DRIM missions until we meet again.
